WALK FOR LIFE 2010 - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

 Q 1

 ANS

What is the purpose of the WALK FOR LIFE?

The WALK FOR LIFE is an event through which ordinary people can express their determination to fight the scourge of cancer in our society by walking or running and making a small contribution to the work of CanSupport.

  Q 2

 ANS

How will the WALK FOR LIFE generate awareness of cancer?

If a large enough number of people turn out to walk or run it will attract the attention of the media who will report it in the press and on National TV. It will thereby provide an opportunity to showcase people who have had cancer and are now well which will in turn encourage people to have check ups and catch cancer early. Interviews with  representatives of CanSupport will also help explain the work being done by CanSupport so that more people can avail of its free of charge services and call the helpline to answer any of their queries.

The Walk will be flagged off by Mrs Gursharan Kaur, wife of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, at exactly 9 am. The run will begin ten minutes earlier. Participants will have to complete registration formalities well in advance. It is advisable, therefore, to reach the venue by 8 am to allow enough time for all preparations to be completed.

What kind of clothing is advisable?
It is likely to be fairly chilly when people start to assemble around 8 am. However, provided it is a sunny day, it should soon warm up and become comfortable. In addition, physical activity tends to result in generation of internal heat. It is, therefore, advisable to wear removable outer winter wear, which may be removed and carried as the temperature increases.
