Barbara spent time travelling with the CanSupport Home Care team, photographing them at work in patients’ homes and was struck by the close rapport that existed between the team members comprising of a doctor, a nurse, and a counsellor as they took upon the daunting task of providing much needed palliative care to cancer patients in need. Their involvement and relationship they developed with the patients, their caregivers, and the families was astounding for her and that led to the development and eventual release of an accompanying book “Touching Lives” in 2004.
The photographic exhibition and workshop titled, “Touching the Lives of the Dying: Where East Meets West” looked at the palliative care needs in India and how East and West are working together to make a difference in the care of the dying. Initially showcased in India, the work was later exhibited in the UK in 2004 and 2005 as well.
In his foreword, Sir Mark Tully expressed, “Barbara Hind’s collection portrays the work of CanSupport in a way that words can never do.”
