The World Health Assembly (WHO's Governing Body) passed the only stand-alone resolution calling for all countries to "strengthen palliative care as a component of comprehensive care throughout the life course" 10 years ago in 2014. Furthermore, it has also been 20 years since World Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) started the celebration of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day (WHPCD). This makes the year 2024 significant and presents a crucial opportunity to raise awareness and mobilise support for palliative care from communities and governments worldwide.
To join in the fervour of the global movement, CanSupport organised a Melodious Evening of ghazals, geet, and Sufi music with singer Noopur Sidhu Narayan on 14 September at the Baháʼí House of Worship. She was accompanied by Dr Rajneesh Gupta on keyboard and harmonium, Dr Saarang Narayan on guitar, and Manoj Naagar on tabla.
The concert was attended by more than 400 people which included representatives from corporates, special guests from varied fields, medical professionals, students, and 49 cancer patients who are in our care. Mr K. R. Chawla, Deputy Drugs Controller, Delhi; Mr Asad T. Ansari, Drugs Inspector; CanSupport Managing Committee member Prof Dr Rama Baru; Ms Malti Sachdev from Varian Medical Systems International India Pvt Ltd; Ms Prema Bhandari from John L. Bissell Foundation, and Dr Tapaswini Pradhan, Sr Consultant, Head and Neck Oncologist, Apollo Hospital were among the distinguished lot.
The soulful renditions of original compositions and some cherished classics by Noopur Sidhu Narayan left the audience mesmerised and truly stirred everyone. Several attendees were moved to get up on their feet and gleefully match the rhythm of the lyrics. The evening surely left a lasting impact on everyone in the auditorium.
We deeply appreciate the CanSupporters and all who are committed to lending us their valuable support in varied capacities. We look forward to our continued alliance in keeping up the good fight and widening our reach to care for an ever rising number of those in need of compassionate care.
