50-year-old Nagina has cancer of the uterus. In February 2020, she came to Delhi from Bihar to be treated at the Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI). While receiving treatment at the hospital she visited the CanSupport desk and the counsellor at the hospital enrolled her for CanSupport’s Home care service.

On the CanSupport team’s first visit, she said that the DSCI has referred to her to the GTB hospital for surgery. After getting the date for surgery she decided to go to her village to meet her children. The Home Care team reviewed her reports and gave her enough medicine for her visit to the village.

However, as the pandemic struck followed by a strict lockdown she got stuck in her village and could not return to Delhi. As part of the follow up of their cases the team called Nagina to check on her condition but her husband told them that Nagina’s condition is getting worse. She was in pain and was constantly vomiting. Her husband also informed the team that there is no experienced doctor in the village from whom she can get treatment.

To address this issue the team doctor found the details of the local pharmacy in Nagina’s village and informed the Druggist about the medicines that would help in improving Nagina’s condition. Now Nagina has access to the medicines she needs and the team calls her thrice a week to check on her condition.

The team’s support to Nagina has been received with the utmost relief by her family. In fact, her husband praises the team’s empathy and efforts and says that the CanSupport team’s help to Nagina has come like help from God. The comfort that Nagina and her family have received is reward enough for the CanSupport team in a challenging time for patients and their healers alike.
