On Saturday, 9 October 2021, CanSupport is celebrating World Hospice and Palliative Care Day by organizing a musical evening live on its Facebook Page from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. This year CanSupport is excited to share that the musical evening will showcase performances by renowned artists such as Jasbir Jassi, Mannu Kohli and Priya Kanungo.

About World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) 2021

WHPCD is celebrated worldwide to support hospice and palliative care around the world on every second Saturday of October. The theme for World Hospice and Palliative Care Day this year is: “Leave No One Behind –Equity in Access to Palliative Care”.

Through this event we hope to:

• Create social awareness about the importance of palliative care - a holistic approach that improves the quality of life of the patients and their families’ facing problems associated with any life-threatening illness. • Highlight the urgency to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care, especially in the current times. • To raise funds to support CanSupport’s palliative care services to cancer patients
About the Performers

Jasbir Jassi: Jasbir Singh Bains, better known by his stage name Jasbir Jassi, is an Indian singer, lyricist, performer and actor. Jassi, like several of his counterparts is a first-generation musician. As a kid, young Jassi played the harmonium and was a trained classical musician under the auspices of gurus VS Jolly and Puran Shah Koti of the Sufiana fame. Classical guru Ustad Shaukat Ali Khan heavily influences this Punjab da munda, Jassi’s himself influence is Baba Kashmira Singh ji who inspired him to look beyond the horizons and reach pinnacle of perfection in his field.

One of the performances he cherishes the most was at ‘Cannes Film Festival’ in 2012 where he performed for the audience from all over the world. Jasbir Jassi is still waiting to give his best performance though he goes on and on with oodles of energy and make everyone dance to his beats and steals the show one after one. This down to earth, simple, humble, God-fearing guy is very aggressive to serve nation may be missing from page3 parties for a layman he is always available to an extend that he forgets that he is a celebrity.

Mannu Kohli: Mannu Kohli is a content curator, producer and artiste manager with an extraordinary journey in the music world. She has been a part of the Indian Music Industry for the last 20 years as an A&R (Artiste and Repertoire) Head and later, the Label Head of the well-known music label Music Today, which was the music division of the India Today Group. Her 15-year long stint with the music label was replete with experiences with some of the finest voices and musicians of the sub-continent. While at the label, she seamlessly also slipped into her role as an artiste manager for one of the leading voices of the sub-continent, Classical, Sufi, Bollywood singer Shafqat Amanat Ali. She continues her journey with the artiste, which started in 2007 as his global business manager.

Trained in Hindustani classical music under the guidance of Smt Abha Mukherjee and late Smt Shanti Sharma, Mannu also sings the poetry of poets such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Baba Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusrau and Mirza Ghalib for select platforms. Mannu performs at selective occasions and has lent her voice to various stage productions such as Ghalib Ke Khutoot, Ishq, Dara Shikoh and many others. She is currently working as the head of A&R for her new music label, a joint initiative with Panorama Music to present the music of artistes across the sub-continent and Asia. She is also working with Routes 2 Roots NGO on a digital cultural education program for students across India, for which she has designed the content.

Priya Kanungo: A vocalist, Priya Kanungo has been a disciple of Pundit Amarnath of the Indore Gharana, and Pundit Deepak Chatterjee of the Seheswan Gharana. She has also been under the guidance of Pandits Rajan and Sajan Misra of the Banaras Gharana.

Apart from having trained under these stalwarts, she has an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D in Hindustani Vocal Music from Delhi University. She has been awarded the National Talent Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and has been Advisor, DD Bharati, a television channel dedicated to art and culture. She has also taught an introductory course in Hindustani Music at Yale University, USA, in 2010, and at Ashoka University, Haryana (India), in 2014. Since January 2017, she is teaching music and writing at O P Jindal Global University, Sonipat. Priya sings khayal, thumris, bhajans, ghazals, and film songs. She is happy to experiment with different genres of music, and to collaborate with artistes from varied fields.

Apart from her interest in music, Priya has a degree in Commerce from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, and has worked as a journalist with The Financial Express, The Economic Times, Business Standard and Hindustan Times.
