Resilience in Adversity: Kuldeep’s Journey with Palliative Care

CanSupportStories

Kuldeep Gupta, a 52-year-old father of three daughters, found himself facing a daunting challenge when cancer forced him to leave his job at a small shop.

With Kuldeep’s illness, the Gupta family's financial stability began to crumble.

Despite their hardships, Kuldeep was able to arrange her eldest daughter’s marriage, while the second daughter, forced to abandon her studies, struggled to find work. Tragedy struck again when she suffered an accident, leaving her bedridden and unable to contribute financially.

With mounting medical bills and no relief in sight, Kuldeep attempted to return to his former job. However, his facial wound and slurred speech made it impossible for him to resume his duties.

It was during this time, Kuldeep learnt about CanSupport’s free services. The team met Kuldeep and recognizing his resilience, they encouraged him to start a small business. The CanSupport team would mobilize a pushcart which he could use. Without hesitation, Kuldeep embraced the opportunity, and his youngest daughter eagerly agreed to join him.

Thanks to the counsellor’s consistent support, Kuldeep's spirit remained unbroken despite his worsening condition. Embraced by supportive care Kuldeep was filled with hope and determination to provide for his family. His words to the counsellor, "Ma'am, I want to earn something before I leave this world, so that my family has something to fall back on. It would bring me great solace," resonated deeply with the CanSupport team.

Despite the challenges, Kuldeep and his daughter tackled their new venture with unwavering dedication. Even as his health deteriorated, they persevered, managing their business with remarkable efficiency.

CanSupport stepped up the support to Kuldeep by providing the family with ration supplies, easing their burden as they navigated through tough times.

Kuldeep Gupta's story underscores the vital role of palliative care in providing holistic support beyond medical treatment, enabling patients to find purpose and dignity amidst adversity.
